CS2 Season 4: Anubis Reworked, MP7 & MP5-SD Buffed, and New Strategies Emerging

On January 21, 2026, Valve rolled out a major update for Counter-Strike 2, kicking off Premier Season 4 and introducing significant changes to Anubis, recently reintroduced to the active map pool. This rework promises to shake up competitive gameplay and deliver fresh action for fans worldwide.

Anubis: Strategic and Tactical Rework

The most visible changes affect Anubis. The Middle doors have been completely redesigned, and the drop to Canals from the bridge has been repositioned directly in front of the doors. These adjustments significantly alter duel timings and sightlines, opening new tactical options for both attackers and defenders.

B site has also received key tactical upgrades: a hole at the top of the E-box now allows for precise grenade and molotov throws, enabling more advanced retakes and coordinated defenses. At A site, several crates have been moved above the stairs, providing CTs with better cover and improving defensive control over fast executes.

These modifications are intended to make fights more dynamic and encourage innovative strategies at both professional and amateur levels.

SMG Buffs: MP7 and MP5-SD in the Spotlight

On the weapons side, Valve has given the MP7 and MP5-SD renewed relevance. Both SMGs now deal slightly more damage, suffer less range falloff, and cost $100 less (now $1,400). These buffs could reshape the eco-round meta and give aggressive players more viable options at short and medium ranges. The PP-Bizon also received a $100 price reduction, making SMGs a more appealing choice in bonus situations.

Jumping and Bunnyhopping: Recalibrated Movement

Movement mechanics have also been tweaked. Landing time is now calculated using subtick technology, and jumping or landing no longer affects stamina. Players will need to adjust their bunnyhop techniques to maintain speed and fluidity. While movement specialists may need a few hours to readjust, these changes promise a more precise and responsive gameplay experience.

Cosmetic Updates: Weekly Rewards Get a Refresh

Two new skin collections have been added to Weekly Care Packages:

  • Harlequin Collection – bold, vibrant colors and high contrast
  • Achroma Collection – minimalistic white and grey finishes

These additions refresh cosmetic rewards and incentivize weekly play for players chasing new skins.

Cache Tease and Competitive Outlook

Fans have long awaited the return of Cache, removed from the active pool in 2019. Valve has hinted on social media that the map is in development, though no official release date has been announced. Its eventual return could once again shift the CS2 competitive landscape.

The BLAST Bounty Season 1, taking place January 22–25, will serve as a testing ground for these changes. Between the Anubis rework, SMG buffs, and movement adjustments, the world’s top teams will have the chance to showcase their adaptability, promising fresh and exciting gameplay for spectators.

A Bold Start to Season 4

With the January 21 patch, Counter-Strike 2 begins Season 4 in ambitious fashion. Between the reimagined Anubis, a potentially reshaped SMG meta, and attractive cosmetic additions, Valve is offering players and fans a renewed playground where strategy, positioning, and reflexes will be more crucial than ever.
